JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Lewis University men's soccer team defeated Lincoln University 1-0 Sunday (Oct. 20) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match. Today's win marks the Flyers sixth consecutive win and clinching a berth in the GLVC Tournament.

First Half: Lewis 1, Lincoln 0
The Flyers started the match applying pressure early with three shots on goal less than 20 minutes into the first half. Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) and Makonnen Stampley (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) had two early shots on goal that were saved by the Blue Tigers goalkeeper Antwone Gooden. Followed up by Cristian Perez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) having a shot unfortunately hit off the crossbar.
The Flyers stayed aggressive and at 32:01 Hernandez found the back of the net with an assist coming from Revell, giving the Flyers a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Flyers played great defense in the first half only allowing one shot on goal from the Blue Tigers.
Second Half: Lewis 0, Lincoln 0
The Flyers strong defense was a key factor in the second half, led by goalkeeper Doppelhofer. The Blue Tigers had 11 shots in the second half, with eight of the eleven shots coming in with less than 20 minutes to go in the match.
Along with a Lincoln corner kick at 78:41. Doppelhofer had three clutch saves in the last 20 minutes of the match, with his third save coming at the 84:00 mark.
The Flyers were able to hold off the Blue Tigers in the last six minutes, securing their sixth consecutive win and clinching a berth in the GLVC Tournament. The Flyers are now currently in second place in the GLVC standings.
