Lewis Men's Volleyball Falls to Lindenwood Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 13 Lewis University men's volleyball team was unable to build on momentum after winning the first set as Lindenwood won three straight sets to take the match, 3-1, Friday (Feb. 16) at Neil Carey Arena.

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Lewis 25, Lindenwood 20
Lewis started the match off strong after scoring the first three points of the contest. Lindenwood got it close at 7-6 in favor of Lewis before Roquet recorded a kill to shift momentum back to the Flyers. 

The Flyers extended its lead out to 16-11 after three straight kills including a pair by Morgan. Lindenwood made a comeback and trailed by four (24-20) but Lewis was able to get match point.

Set 2: Lindenwood 25, Lewis 12
Lindenwood had full control of the second set after scoring the first six points. Lewis tried to get back in the match after three kills from Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) made it 11-4 Lions. 

Moments later, Lindenwood extended its lead out to 17-6. The Flyers tried to get back in the match after back-to-back points cut it down to 20-11 Lions.

Lindenwood outscored Lewis 5-1 the rest of the way to win the second set 25-12.

Set 3: Lindenwood 25, Lewis 20
Lindenwood led 4-2 early in the set before the Flyers tied it with kills from Morgan and Haber. The Lions responded with four straight points to pull ahead 8-4. 

Roquet and Tyler Simpson (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) got Lewis right back in the set after picking up a block to make it 9-7 Lions which led to an ace from Simpson. Lindenwood led 14-12 midway through the set before Lewis rallied for four straight points capped off by a kill from Roquet which gave Lewis a 16-14 lead.

Lindenwood responded with four straight of its own to make it 18-16. Prayer recorded the next point for the Flyers but that was the closest Lewis got the rest of the set as the Lions outscored Lewis 7-3 to win the third set 25-20.

Set 4: Lindenwood 25, Lewis 17
The Lions started the fourth set winning the first three points for an early 3-0 lead.  Sack tried to get Lewis some momentum after recording a kill. 

Moments later, Lindenwood extended its lead to 13-5 after rallying for five straight points. John Davis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) recorded a kill to make it 17-9 in favor of Lindenwood. 

Late in the fourth set, Davis recorded back-to-back kills followed by one from Prayer as the Flyers looked for a rally. The Lions recorded the next point and won the set 25-17 to win the match 3-1.
