ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team swept both games of a doubleheader against Rockhurst Friday (March 22). The Flyers shutout the Hawks in the first game, 7-0, then won the second 7-2.

Becky Pearl said. "The pitchers did a great job of keeping hitters off balance and it was great to see everyone work together for two wins today!"

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings before Lewis broke through in the fourth inning.
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) scored the first run of the contest after a Rockhurst miscue off a ground out by
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School).Â
The two teams did not score in the fourth inning. Lewis broke through with a three spot in the fifth inning to go up 4-0.Â
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) started the rally with a double to left then
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) drove her home with a RBI single which scored Calderon to make it 2-0.
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) extended the lead out to 3-0 after ripping a RBI double to left which scored Wuske from second.
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) made it 4-0 after reaching on an error that scored Nilles. Lewis had another big inning this time with three runs in the sixth.Â
Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill.) came through with the bases-loaded with a single to right which scored Calderon and
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) to make it 6-0. Kmak would later score on a wild pitch which extended the lead out to 7-0.
Lewis allowed its first base-runner of the contest as Rockhurst recorded a single in the seventh inning but the Flyers were able to shake it off and closed out the victory. Garden (9-2) threw a one-hitter Friday for the victory after the junior tossed seven innings, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out a career high 14.Â
GAME 2: Lewis 7, Rockhurst 2

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the first two innings before Lewis was able to break through with a pair of runs in the third inning. Garden gave Lewis the 1-0 lead after a RBI ground-rule double scored Nilles.Â
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) recorded the second straight ground-rule double, scoring Garden to extend the lead to 2-0. Rockhurst responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.Â
Lewis bounced back and scored three runs in the bottom half of the frame to grab a 5-2 lead. Wuske started the scoring with RBI double which scored Bontrager to make it 3-2.Â
A couple batters later, Nilles grounded out to third, scoring Wuske to make it 4-2. Garden made it 5-2 after she ripped the first pitch she saw into left center which scored Kmak.
Lewis extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Frafjord walked, Bontrager hit her first home run of the season with a two-run shot to right to make it 7-2.
Wuske (4-2) threw four innings, allowed five hits, gave up two runs (one earned), walking one and striking out five.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) pitched three innings in relief and did not allow a hit or issue a walk and struck out four as the sophomroe recorded her second save of the season. Â
