ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team fell, 12-10, against Truman State Saturday (March 30) at Brennan Field.

Lewis went up big early, scoring nine runs in the first three innings to take a 9-0 advantage. In the first,
Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) singled to bring home
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill.) for the first run.
The Flyers added on two more in the bottom of the second as
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) hit a two-run inside-the-park home run that scored
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and made it 3-0. After three straight singles loaded the bases for Lewis in the third,
Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) walked to plate McDevitt and a wild pitch scored
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian).
An error by Truman State brought home two more runs, making the Flyers' lead 7-0. Walks to
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) and Fox brought in Headrick and
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) to push the score to 9-0.
The Bulldogs got the bats going in the top of the fourth for a huge eight-run inning to cut the deficit to 9-8. Lewis starter
Luke Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) came out after 3+ innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks, striking out two.
Headrick doubled home Alt in the bottom of the fourth to get a run back for Lewis, and then both bullpens settled in and shut things down.
Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) went 3+ innings for the Flyers, allowing no runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Truman State scored four runs in the top of the ninth including a three-run home run to take a 12-10 lead. Headrick had an infield single in the bottom half but Lewis was unable to score and the Bulldogs emerged with the victory.
