FAYETTE, Iowa - The Lewis University baseball team swept its doubleheader at Upper Iowa Saturday (April 13). The Flyers won the first game, 13-7, and won game two 10-5.
GAME 1 TEAM RECORDS

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Lewis got going early, putting two runs on the board just four batters into the game.
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) drew a leadoff walk,
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill.) then doubled before
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) hit an RBI groundout to bring Fox home and a single by McDevitt scored Kocen and made it 2-0 Flyers in the top of the first.
Upper Iowa responded with seven runs in the bottom of the first as seven of its first eight batters had hits. The Flyers scored three more in the top of the second to cut into the deficit.
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) had a leadoff single and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin), and later a double by Fox set up Kocen to hit a two-RBI single, scoring
Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Fox to make it 7-5. Lewis went off for a seven-run inning of its own in the top of the third to take a 12-7 lead.
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) and
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) hit back-to-back doubles to start the inning and make it 7-6 Peacocks. With the bases loaded, Fox hit a two-run double to give the Flyers the lead at 8-7, then Kocen singled to bring home Alt.
A wild pitch brought Fox home before Krol singled to right field and Kocen scored. Cantelo singled to plate Krol and finish the scoring on the frame with Lewis up 12-7.
The score stayed there until Bilecki smacked a solo home run in the top of the sixth to bring the lead to 13-7.
Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) (2-1) earned the win on the mound for the Flyers, throwing 6 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, scattering seven hits and one walk while striking out five.
GAME 2 TEAM RECORDS
Lewis 16-19 (10-13 GLVC) | Upper Iowa 8-26 (5-18 GLVC)
GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis once again scored a pair of runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Two hit batters helped the Flyers load the bases, and Cantelo drove in Alt with a single before Bilecki hit into a fielder's choice which scored Krol.
Keaty and Fox hit back-to-back homers in the top of the second to push the Flyer lead to 4-0. Upper Iowa got one back in the bottom half before Alt threw out a runner at third trying to take two bases on a single to end the inning.
Cantelo led off the third with a double, and Headrick later singled him home to make it 5-1. The Peacocks responded with a solo shot in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Lewis got rolling again in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to get the lead up to 8-2. McDevitt started the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought Alt home.
Bilecki had an RBI groundout to score Krol and Headrick singled to plate Cantelo to cap off the scoring on the inning. The Flyers scored two more in the fifth as a double by Alt set up an RBI groundout by Krol that scored Fox, then Cantelo singled to bring home Alt and make it 10-2.
Upper Iowa scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh inning but that was as close as it would get as Lewis closed out the 10-5 win.
Luke Carlson (Granville, Ill./Putnam County) (2-3) earned the win, going five innings and allowing three runs on five hits, three walks and striking out two.Â
