ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team picked up its second straight sweep in as many days as the Flyers defeated No. 8 Penn State 3-0 Saturday (Jan. 11).

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Lewis 25, Penn State 15
Lewis started the match strong after scoring the first three points to make it 3-0. Moments later, the Flyers extended the lead out to 6-2 after a kill from Oguz.
Penn State responded with back-to-back points to make it 6-4. The Flyers rallied again scoring five straight and eight out of 10 capped off by a kill from
Frederick Krueger-Beer (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) to make it 14-5.
Lewis had control of the entire first set; however, the Nittany Lions tried to rally with back-to-back points, which made it 23-15. The Flyers ended up getting two straight points off blocks from Baggs and Roquet to clinch the opening set.
SET 2: Lewis 25, Penn State 15
Both teams traded points back-and-forth until it was 8-8. Lewis got the upper hand after scoring back-to-back points to make it 10-8.
Lewis never trailed the rest of the way in the second set. The Flyers closed out the second set on a 8-1 run which was started by a kill from Roquet and ended with one from Krueger-Beer.
SET 3: Lewis 25, Penn State 22
Lewis went into the third set looking for the sweep and the Flyers did just that. Penn State tried to force a fourth set after picking up the upper hand and going ahead 8-6.
The Flyers tied the set after two straight points including a kill from Oguz and a block from Roquet and Baggs. Moments later, Lewis grabbed a 13-11 lead after three straight points including a pair of aces from Oguz.
The Nittany Lions went up 18-16 late in the third set. Lewis bounced back and scored four straight points capped off by an ace by Roquet, giving the Flyers a 20-18 advantage late.
Penn State recorded the next point before the Flyers picked up the next three points for a 23-19 lead. The Nittany Lions had one last fight in them with back-to-back kills.
Lewis was able to close it out and win the third set 25-22 and match 3-0.
