#12 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Wins Nine Straight Sets to Begin 2025; Sweep Roosevelt Tuesday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 12 Lewis University men's volleyball team defeated Roosevelt 3-0 Tuesday (Jan. 14). The Flyers have now won nine straight sets to begin the 2025 season.

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Lewis 25, Roosevelt 15

Lewis recorded an early 4-3 lead after a kill from Nathan DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, Penn./Seneca Valley HS). Roosevelt responded with three straight points for a 6-4 advantage. 
 
The Flyers responded with a 4-1 rally capped off by a kill from DeGraaf to make it 8-7. Moments later, the Lakers picked up a 14-12 lead midway through the set.
 
Lewis rallied off 10 consecutive points, which was capped off by a kill from Todorov to make it 22-14. Roosevelt picked up the next point before the Flyers closed out the opening set with three straight which was won by an ace from Todorov.
 
SET 2: Lewis 25, Roosevelt 21
Both teams scored a pair of points to start the second set before Lewis recorded three in a row to grab a 5-2 lead. The Lakers scored the next two points to make it a one-point set.
 
Back-to-back kills from Weyerhaeuser and Wesley Yusk (Casselberry, Fla./Lake Howell) made it 7-4. Roosevelt bounced back and scored three straight to tie the set at 7-7. 
 
Moments later, Cole Sweitzer (Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) recorded back-to-back kills to put the Lewis lead out to 15-10 midway through the set. The Lakers tried to get back in the set after scoring four consecutive points to make it 15-14. 
 
The Flyers then scored the next five out of six points to regain a five-point lead at 20-15. Roosevelt had one last fight in them as the Lakers cut it down to 23-21 but two straight kills from Sweitzer gave the Flyers a 25-21 set two victory.
 
SET 3: Lewis 25, Roosevelt 15
Lewis started the third set on their sights to sweep after Cameron Hoying (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) made it 3-1 after recording a kill. The Flyers had control of the entire third set as the closest Roosevelt made it was 9-7. 
 
Lewis went on to score seven straight which was capped off by a kill from Hoying to make it 16-7. Moments later, the Flyers extended its lead to 21-12 after kills from Zach Pekol (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Tyler Walenga (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East)
 
Roosevelt made it 22-15 after two straight points but Lewis closed it out. The Flyers scored three straight points to win the set 25-15 and win the match 3-0.

Lewis will be back in action Friday, January 17 as the Flyers host Rockhurst for Club Night starting at 7 p.m. CT.
