Findlay, Ohio - The Lewis University men's and women's swim traveled to Sink Natatorium on Saturday, November 15, to compete in a tri-meet against Findlay and Hillsdale. The Flyers recorded several event wins and strong top-three finishes across the lineup in multiple events.
On the men's side, Findlay won 195-64 while on the women's side, Lewis fell to Findlay 194-68 but Hillsdale defeated Lewis 177-84 in the double-dual event.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis opened the meet strong with a second place finish in the 00-yard medley relay, as
Colin Bade (La Grange Park, Ill./Lyons Township), Pablo Solan De Vargas,
Davidson Vincent (Thomonde, Haiti/Westlake Preparatory School), and Otavio De Moraes Cuna combined fo a time of 3:28.65.
Juanjo Castro continued his distance dominance by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:30.56, edging out Findlay by just one-hundredth of a second. Castro later added a third-place finish in the 100 free (47.97).
The Flyers collected additional top performances through the meet as
Eren Yarar (Adana, Turkey/TED Mersin College) placed third in the 1,000 free (9:43.82) and later earned third in the 200 IM (1:57.53).
Andres Bodington (Caracas, Venezuela/Mars Hill) finished second in the 500 free (4:48.03) while Vincent grabbed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.59. De Moraes Cunha led Lewis sprinters, placing fourth in the 200 free (1:48.21) and fifth in the 50 free (21.65). Bade earned second in the 100 backstroke (52.49)
Lewis closed the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, as De Moraes Cunha, Vincent, Soma Bota-Depinyi, and Castro clocked a 1:25.34.
The Lewis women started off with a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay, where
Amelia Marsicek (Centennial, Colo./Regis Jesuit), Genova Seawright,
Morgan Vis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West), and
Luna Schafer (Playa Del Carmen, Mexico/The Trents) timed 4:04.74.
Billie Koehler (Denver, Col./Grandview) and Dom Dingshoff led the long-distance group:
Dingshoff took third in the 500 free (5:24.05) while her teammate Koehler followed just behind in fourth (5:24.93).
Freshman
Wiktoria Cioch-Gradzik (Slaska, Poland/X High School of Sports Championship) added a strong showing with fourth in the 1,000 free (11:20.26).
Lewis produced multiple scoring swims across strokes as Marsicek placed third in the 100 back (1:00.26) and Seawright finished third in the 100 breast (1:09.80)
The flyers wrapped up the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay behind a lineup of Schafer,
Johanna Coates (Lusaka, Zambia/Lusaka International Community School),
Maria Kretosz (Katowice, Poland/AWF Katowice), and Dingshof with a time of 1:41.28.
