SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Lewis 25, Ball State 21
To start the game Lewis began with a commanding double block by
Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove HS) and Morgan to jump ahead 3-1 early. As Lewis held its lead going deeper into the first set they capitalized with a three-point run with kills from Morgan and Roquet to make the score 12-7. Not soon after the Cardinals returned with a four-point run of their own with three kills by Rogers.
With Ball State staying close to the Flyers, Lewis used another three-point run late to push the lead to five with a score of 19-14. Ball State worked to eliminate the deficit with an ace by Rogers but a Lewis kill by Oguz ended set one at 25-21.
SET 2: Ball State 25, Lewis 19
The Flyers once again started the set with a decisive play with an ace by Haber to start out 2-0. The Cardinals quickly erased the Lewis lead with a four-point run to go up 4-2 right after.
Midway through set two with the Flyers trailing right behind, Ball State used two kills and an ace by Savitski-Lynde to increase their margin to 16-12. Late into the set the Cardinals were dominate in protecting their lead as the Flyers could only muster seven more points after that as the Cardinals won the set 25-19.
SET 3: Ball State 25, Lewis 17
Ball State took control of set three when they went on a 6-1 run to open the gates, starting with a Lewis attacking error and finished with an ace by Rogers. Lewis later cut down on the lead using kills from Morgan and Roquet to make the score 11-8.
As the set went on it was clear the Cardinals had the upper hand continuously reinforcing their lead on the Flyers not letting any runs go by. Ball State put an end to the set at 25-17 with a kill by Rogers ending it.
SET 4: Ball State 25, Lewis 23
Both teams stayed even with one another to start the running in set four until a kill by Basilio capped off a 4-1 run to put the Cardinals up 6-5 early. Soon later the lead changed again with a kill by Haber and Ball State attacking error putting the Flyers on top 11-10.
The score stayed within one as the set continued until back-to-back kills by Patterson tied the set at 16-16 for Ball State. As the set came down the finishing stretch, two Lewis serving errors put the Cardinals in position to score the final point with a kill by Louis ending it at 25-23 and concluding the match.
