MUNCIE, Ind. -- The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team responded with a 3-2 victory Friday (Feb. 14) against Ball State.

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Ball State 25, Lewis 17
Both teams started the set with a pair of points before Ball State rallied off three straight to grab a 5-2 lead. Lewis recorded back-to-back points before the Cardinals got three in a row again to extend it out to 8-4.
Lewis tried to get back in the set after three straight points after kills from
Oguzhan Oguz (Bursa, Turkey/Ocean) and Krueger-Beer and an ace from
Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) to make it 16-13 Cardinals. Ball State outscored the Flyers 9-4 the rest of the way to take the opening set 25-17.
SET 2: Lewis 25, Ball State 21
Ball State jumped out to an early 3-1 lead then Lewis recorded four straight points including a service ace from
Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove HS) and a kill from Oguz making it 5-3. Ball State regained the lead after picking up three straight points.
Both teams went back and forth until it was tied at 20-20. Lewis proceeded to score the next two points after a kill from
Cole Sweitzer (Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) and an ace from Hoying which made it 22-20.
The Cardinals proceeded to score the next point. The Flyers captured victory in the second set after recording three straight including kills from Roquet and Morgan to make it 1-1.
SET 3: Lewis 25, Ball State 17
Lewis led 4-3 early after a kill from Roquet. Ball State rallied for four straight points giving the Cardinals a 7-4 advantage.
Moments later, the Cardinals led 12-9 in the set before Lewis scored four straight including three blocks from Krueger-Beer and a pair from Roquet. The Flyers led throughout the set and Ball State made it as close as 20-17.
Lewis was able to win the third set after scoring five straight points to close it out. Hoying record three straight service aces during that stretch to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
SET 4: Ball State 25, Lewis 10
Ball State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back in the set. Lewis made it as close as 9-6 after a kill from Roquet.
The Cardinals proceeded to score nine straight points to grab a commanding 18-6 lead. Sweitzer tried to start a rally for the Flyers after recording a kill but Ball State did not give in.
Ball State ended up winning the fourth 25-10 to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
SET 5: Lewis 15, Ball State 12
Both teams traded points back-and-forth before Lewis jumped out to a 11-9 lead after a kill from Krueger-Beer an ace from Sweitzer. Ball State proceeded to score the next point to make it 11-10.
The Flyers were able to win the fifth set after recording back-to-back points. Hoying ended it after two straight kills from Hoying to win it 3-2 for the Flyers.
