Lewis Softball Splits First Day of Dome Invitational Thursday

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team split a two team doubleheader on Thursday (Feb. 20) with a win against Bemidji State and a loss to Minnesota Duluth. 

GAME 1: Lewis 5, Bemidji State 1

SUMMARY
The Beavers would take the lead in the game with a run in the first inning off of an RBI single to center field. 

Lewis would take over the scoreboard for the rest of the game scoring their first run in the third thanks to a Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) RBI which would bring home Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School)

A strong defensive outing from the Flyers would keep the game tied until the sixth inning where Lewis had a large burst of offense. to seal the game. With runners in scoring position, Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School), Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) and Sofia Dziuba (Minooka, IL/Minooka Community High School) would collectively bring in four runs to give Lewis the 5-1 lead.

Garden would finish out the game with a strikeout and two groundouts giving Lewis their first win of their Dome Invitational.

GAME 2: Duluth 7, Lewis 5

Lewis 5-7 | Duluth 7-3

SUMMARY
Playing from behind again, Lewis would tie the game in the second inning with a run off of an error and took the lead in the third from a Graham RBI single.

Duluth would retake the lead in the fourth with two runs of their own putting the Flyers down 3-2.

Lewis would have a big fourth inning with a double from Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) to start a chain of hits which would see RBIs from Hoffman, Mackenzie Sheehan (Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove) and Graham to give Lewis a 5-3 lead.

Duluth came back in the fifth and sixth scoring three runs to give them the lead and the win after Lewis was unable to get any runs in the bottom of the seventh.
 
UP NEXT
Lewis will return to the dome on Saturday (Feb. 22) for another two games against GLIAC opponents Grand Valley and Wayne State at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
