ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University baseball team played McKendree University on Friday, March 14 and the Flyers won both games of the doubleheader. The Flyers won the first game 16-6 and also won the second game 7-6 to push the team's win streak to four straight games.
GAME 1: Lewis 16, McKendree 6

SUMMARY
Lewis opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot to center by
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) to put Lewis up early, 1-0. In the top of the third inning, the Bearcats evened the score at 1-1 with a solo shot of their own coming from Muth.
McKendree added another run in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly from Noreus and an RBI double from Bittle to put McKendree up 3-1.
Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) brought the Flyers back to life in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI double bringing the score to 3-2 and was one of five runs the Flyers produced in the inning ending the inning up three at 6-3.
Muth cashed in another RBI for McKendree in the top of the sixth inning with a single but Lewis responded with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth with back-to-back homers from
Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) and
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) extending the score to 9-4.
The Bearcats, in the top of the seventh came away with two solo shots from Garcia and Shuman to push the score to 9-6. In the final half inning of play in the seventh, the Flyers batted around and came across home plate seven times highlighted by a three RBI double from McDevitt, Kocen's second homer of the game bringing in two and RBI double from
Cole Nelson (St. Charles, Ill/Lenoir Rhyne) securing the win at 16-6 for the Flyers.
GAME 2: Lewis 7, McKendree 6

SUMMARY
Pitcher
Luke Carlson (Granville, Ill./Putnam County) commanded the second game of the doubleheader early on by setting the tone with striking out the side in the top of the first. The Flyers followed up their half of the first inning with back-to-back homers again with a two-run shot by Kocen followed by a solo home run by Bilecki to go up 3-0.
Carlson tallied up his sixth strikeout of the day through just three innings in the top of the third. At the same time, Kocen led the way again, racking up his fourth home run of the day in the bottom of the third pushing the Flyers lead to 4-0 while Bilecki later came around to score on a fielder's choice to go up 5-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Bearcats got on the board with a two-run homer by McMinn bringing the score to 5-2. McKendree's next opportunity in the top of the fifth muscled across five total runs giving the Bearcats a 6-5 lead including a two run home run by Cruse.
An RBI double by Nelson to right center field in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 6-6 while an RBI single from McDevitt brought home Nelson to put Lewis up late 7-6. Relief pitcher
Carter Endisch (Pewaukee, Wis.) after taking over in the top half of the fifth for Lewis secured the close win at 7-6 while stranding the tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh.
