#15 Lewis Falls to #7 Northridge in Five Set Battle

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team dropped another match in the fifth set on Thursday night (March 20) against the No. 7 ranked California State Northridge.

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Lewis 25, CSUN 14
The Flyers started off their match on Thursday night with a four point run ended by a serving error. They regained control of the ball and went on another short run and were quickly up 8-2 early in the first set. A kill by Oguz gave the Flyers another big push to make it 11-4 followed by a small CSUN run ended by a kill from Todorov.

The Flyers were the first squad to 20 on the day with a CSUN service error. A block by Morgan and Kreuger-Beer would make it 21-13, point 22 would come off of another CSUN serving error. The Flyers ended the first set on a 3-0 run created by a serving error, a block by Oguz and Baggs, and finished off with a kill by Roquet. 
 
SET 2: CSUN 25, Lewis 23
Oguz started the second set with with a kill with the assist from Morgan. The Flyers kept a leg up on the Matadors at the start of the second set going back and forth making it a 4-2 game but CSUN would take 6 out the next 7. It would continue to be a back and forth game with CSUN a few points ahead. The Flyers eventually closed the distance by tying the game with a Morgan service ace to make it 16-16 game.

The game would remain in a tied state with CSUN holding the advantage on each lead change. The Flyers would battle their way to a 23-23 tie with another kill from Roquet but lose on the next two plays dropping the second set. 

SET 3: Lewis 25, CSUN 20
The Flyers second and last won set of the night started with a Todorov kill. Lewis lost the lead but quickly gained it back and added a three point run with kills from Roquet and Baggs with a serving ace from Roquet as well. The Flyers continued to expand their lead and after another three point run Lewis was up 17-12. 

Both teams would exchange solo points back and forth near the end of the set, Roquet and Oguz would each have a kill to end the set with a score of 25-20 giving Lewis their last set of the night. 

SET 4: CSUN 25, Lewis 20
The Matadors took a commanding hold of the fourth set early with Lewis being able to gather a few points with kills from Roquet, Morgan, and Baggs. The Flyers tied the game at 10 with a five point run which saw a kill and serving ace from Todorov and kills from Roquet, Oguz and Morgan again. 

CSUN continued on with a steady lead over the Flyers until Lewis was able to tie the game once more at 15 with two kills by Oguz. The Matadors were able to pull together enough points to form short runs to give them the 25-20 win in the fourth set. 

SET 5: CSUN 17, Lewis 15
A Oguz kill began the fifth set giving Lewis the first lead of the final game. CSUN had a strong stretch taking 5 out of six giving themseleves a 6-3 lead over the Flyers. A kill by Oguz and an attack error gave the Flyers another two pints but hey still trailed 7-5.

The Matadors held a small lead but a five point Flyer run gave the lead back to Lewis. A kill by Oguz, two attack errors and two Krueger-Beer serving aces gave Lewis a 13-12 lead. A block by Baggs and a kill by Oguz would give Lewis 15 in the final set but they came an inopportune times, and CSUN would claim the fifth set and the match.
 
FINAL SCORE: CSUN 3, Lewis 2
