#24 Lewis Baseball Splits With Purdue Northwest Tuesday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 24 Lewis University baseball team defeated Purdue Northwest in both games in a doubleheader at Brennan Field Tuesday (April 8). The Flyers won the first game 11-1 then the Pride took the second 6-5.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Lewis struck first in the second inning after Daniel O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), making it 1-0. Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) made it 3-0 after a two-run single up the middle, scoring Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) and Cole Nelson (St. Charles, Ill/Lenoir Rhyne)
 
Lewis scored five runs in the fourth inning after a scoreless third. Headrick singled home Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) making it 4-0. 
 
Krol ripped a two-run single to center, scoring George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and Headrick, giving Lewis a 6-0 advantage. 
 
Peterson got an RBI the hard way after getting hit by a pitch, scoring Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) making it 7-0. Phommachanhom made it 8-0 after his RBI single scored Hunley.
 
Purdue Northwest got one run back in the top of the fifth, making it 8-1 Lewis. Lewis got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth, extending the Flyers lead to 10-1. 
 
Krol reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Headrick for a 9-1 lead. Two batters later, Nelson drove home Krol with an RBI double to left, making it 10-1.
 
Mario Prieto (Barlett, Ill./Barlett) extended the lead to 11-1 with a pitch-hit RBI single to right field, scoring John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South)
 
Jackson Kottmeyer (Aurora, Ill/Kaneland) (2-0) recorded the win on the mound after going six innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five. 
 
GAME 2: Purdue Northwest 6, No. 24 Lewis 5

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Purdue Northwest scored first in the second inning, giving the Pride an early 1-0 lead. 
 
Nelson tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning after hitting an RBI triple, to score Hunley. 
 
The Pride regained the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs, taking a 3-1 advantage. 
 
Lewis broke through with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Flyers a 5-3 lead. Bilecki smashed a two-run double to center field, scoring Headrick and Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita)
 
Hunley gave Lewis a 5-3 advantage after hitting his third home run of the season with a two-run shot to left center. 
 
Purdue Northwest responded with a three-run top of the sixth inning, regaining the lead at 6-5. The Pride closed the game in the bottom of the sixth and seventh by keeping Lewis off the scoreboard and winning it 6-5. 
 
UP NEXT
No. 24 Lewis will return to action Friday, April 11 for a four-game series and resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play against Quincy starting at 2 p.m. CT.
