Lewis Baseball Announces Signing Class

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University baseball coach Mike Vucsko has announced his 2025-26 signing class.

"First off, I want to thank coach (Jake) Lotz, coach (Thomas) Fox, and coach (Danny) Wuestenfeld for their efforts in putting together a good recruiting class," Vucsko said. "They all did a tremendous job identifying high character student athletes. We cannot wait for these young men to get to campus next week and start working with them."
 
Lucas Acevedo – The Cybersecurity major was a four-year letterwinner at Lincoln-Way West High School. He was a two-time All-Southtown Second Team honoree and a Herald News First Team All-Area selection as a junior. As a senior, he batted .400 with a .558 on base percentage. He tallied five doubles, two triples and a home run, while scoring 35 times and driving in 20 runs. He pitched 18.2 innings, striking out 18 with a 3.00 ERA.
 
Jacob Baub – The lefty pitcher plans to major in Exercise Science at Lewis. He graduated from Lincoln-Way East where he had 16 strikeouts in 16.1 innings as a freshman and held a 4-1 record with a 2.6 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 23.2 innings as a sophomore.
 
Ben Catrambone – The right-handed pitcher joins Lewis via Triton College and Limestone University. He is getting a Master's in Organizational Leadership after graduating Magna Cum Laude. At Triton College in 2023, he pitched 39.1 innings, striking out 46 with a 3.03 ERA.
 
Alexander Chaltin – The Business major joins the Flyers after a year at Triton College and a year at the College of DuPage, where he was First Team All-Region and batted .322 with 10 doubles, three home runs, 28 RBI and 18 stolen bases. At Triton, he had a .346 batting average with 16 RBI. He went to Willowbrook High School where he was two-time WSC Gold All-Conference and batted .391 as a senior with four homers, 30 RBI and 24 stolen bases.
 
Cole Clemens – The outfielder arrives at Lewis from Mineral Area College and Elgin Community College. At Elgin, he was Second Team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference. He batted .353 with 59 hits, 16 doubles and two homers. Elgin went 41-14 on the year, winning the Illinois Skyway Conference and was ranked 16th in the NJCAA. He graduated from Naperville North High School where he was DVC All-Conference in football and baseball.
 
Constantine Coines – The Finance major was a four-year letterwinner in football and three-year varsity baseball player. He was the Central Suburban League MVP in football as a junior and All-Conference as a senior. In baseball, he was First Team CSL as a senior and made the All Cook County Team. He batted .364 with a .497 on base percentage with 44 hits. He set the Maine South stolen base record with 32.
 
Braydon Cooper – The Business Analytics major spent the past three years at Rock Valley College. In 2025,  he went 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 20 innings, picking up five saves. He appeared in 16 contests and struck out 22 batters. He was a four-year varsity member of the Catholic Memorial High School baseball team.
 
Tyler Dance – The Aviation Flight Technology major spent the past two years at John Wood Community College. He pitched 40.1 innings in the MWAC Conference, going 3-2 with 31 strikeouts. He played at Quincy Notre Dame High School where he was on the Herald Whig All-Area Team and was Pitcher of the Year, while making the WCC All-Conference First Team. He went 11-0 as a senior with a .87 ERA, striking out 70 in 60 innings.
 
Israel Delgado –  The Criminal Justice major began his collegiate journey at Rock Valley College. After completing his time there, he transferred to Grambling State University, During the 2023 season at Grambling State, he posted a .327 batting average, showcasing his consistency at the plate and contribution to the team's offense. Prior to his college career, he graduated from Harlem High School in 2022.

Vincent Gohlke – The Finance major joins the Flyers after three years at the University of Illinois-Chicago. The lefty had a 5.79 ERA in 14 innings in 2024 at UIC, allowing a .200 batting average against. He helped the Flames finish with 35 wins. He was the accountability leader at UIC in 2024-25. As a high school senior he was First Team All-Conference and All-State at New Berlin West, where he set the strikeout record with 15. He finished the year with a .67 ERA in 57.3 innings with 92 strikeouts.
 
Jayden Gonzalez – The Business Management major joins Lewis University following a strong collegiate career that included two years at Triton College and one year at Union Commonwealth University. During his time at Union Commonwealth, he made a significant impact on the field, appearing in 42 games and delivering an impressive .333 batting average. His offensive production included five home runs, 30 runs scored and 24 runs batted in.
 
Jaden Henry –  A recent graduate of Lincoln-Way East High School, he played a key role in helping the Griffins achieve an impressive 28-11 record during his senior season. His contributions on the field were instrumental in leading the team to both a conference championship and a regional title, marking one of the program's most successful campaigns in recent years. Now continuing his academic and athletic journey, he is pursuing a degree in Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
 
Robert Herrera – A standout on the mound during his high school career, the Plainfield South graduate earned All-Southwest Prairie Conference (All-SPC) honors as a junior, highlighting his dominance and consistency as a pitcher. Over the course of his time with the Cougars, he cemented his name in the program's record books, finishing fifth all-time in career strikeouts with 166. Now at Lewis University, he is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.
 
Caleb Hohman - A graduate transfer from the University of Dallas, residing in Huntington Beach, California, he will make the journey to Lewis University this fall after spending the past four seasons in Dallas.  Playing every game in the 2025 season, Caleb hit .275 with eight home runs and 33 RBI while also slugging at a .533 clip.  While only committing two errors, Caleb had a .992 fielding percentage this past season.

Nolan Hooper – The Chemical Engineering major is a righty pitcher from Yorkville Christian High School. He was a two-time Kendall County All-Area team member and was All-State Honorable Mention as a senior. He set the single season and All-Time school strikeout record at Yorkville Christian. As a senior he had a 2.59 ERA with 112 strikeouts. He had 44 strikeouts as a freshman, 58 as a sophomore and 74 as a junior.
 
Michael Liyeos – The Business major came to Lewis University following two years at Pepperdine University, where he continued to develop both academically and athletically as a collegiate pitcher.  On the mound for the Waves, Liyeos began to gain game experience—delivering a flawless inning against Utah and navigating through a challenging appearance against Loyola Marymount, demonstrating both his potential and resilience under pressure. Known for his athletic pedigree and calm composure, Liyeos chose Pepperdine for its dynamic baseball environment and academic rigor, and now brings that same drive and foundation to Lewis.
 
Adolfo Lopez – A Business major, hailing from Maine East High School, Lopez brings both positional flexibility and ambition to Lewis University. At Maine East, he shined as a playmaking force on the diamond, fielding flawlessly. Beyond his high school contributions, Adolfo competes for Top Tier North's travel baseball team. His ability to play both corner infield and outfield, coupled with his experience on a nationally competitive travel team, positions him as a dynamic and resilient athlete poised to make significant contributions to his future team at Lewis.
 
Aidan Lopez – Joins Lewis University as a Sport Management major with a strong background in athletics and leadership, having earned varsity letters in both football and baseball at Romeoville High School. A true multi-sport athlete, Lopez demonstrated his athleticism and competitive drive across seasons, excelling as a key contributor on the baseball field and on the gridiron.Lopez helped anchor the Spartans' outfield during a successful 22–15 campaign. Known for his speed, range, and reliable glove, he played a pivotal role in the team's defensive alignment while also contributing offensively. With his background, versatility, and team-oriented mindset, he's poised to make a meaningful impact on and off the field at the collegiate level.
 
Anthony Martinez – He is a dedicated Psychology major and a talented left-handed pitcher who brings a wealth of experience to Lewis University after spending two years at Triton College followed by a year at Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Throughout his collegiate career, Martinez has steadily honed his pitching skills, combining a strong work ethic with tactical intelligence on the mound. With his left-handed pitching prowess, combined with his strong academic focus and proven track record of success, Martinez is positioned to be a key contributor for Lewis both on the field and in the classroom.
 
Karlos Otero – A Romeoville High School graduate, the shortstop is planning to major in Business. He was a three-time All-Area Honorable Mention and a two-time All-State Honorable Mention, as well as three-time SPC All-Conference. As a senior he had a .400 batting average, he had a .310 average as a junior and .377 as a sophomore.
 
Kevin Pauly – The right handed pitcher is joining Lewis after two years at Triton College and a year at Gardner-Webb. He pitched 36.2 innings as a freshman with 49 strikeouts and went 42.1 innings as a sophomore with 56 strikeouts. He was NJCAA All-Academic Second Team for two years at Triton. Pauly was the Rookie Pitcher of the Year with a .81 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched for the Lombard Orioles.
 
Braden Perry – The Aviation Flight Technology major is a six-foot, three-inch right-hand pitcher. He went to Evansville North High School and was a First Team All-Conference and All-State performer. He was a three-time Courier and Press Player of the Week over his career. He was a SIAC Top Performer and an All-State All-Star. He helped his high school to a state runner-up finish and pitched the first perfect game in school history.
 
Jimmy Spellman – Spellman is a 6-foot, 4-inch first baseman from Notre Dame College Prep. He batted .358 as a sophomore with 13 RBI, .301 as a junior with six doubles and 10 RBI and .366 as a senior with 10 doubles, four homers and 18 RBI. He is expected to major in Business.
 
Rowan Smyth – The Accounting major was a four-year pitcher and center fielder at Evergreen Park High School. He helped lead Evergreen Park to a school record for wins in both his junior (26) and senior (27) seasons. He was a two-time South Suburban Red All-Conference selection, Team MVP as a senior and was named to the Daily Southtown All-Area Second Team as a senior. In nine starts as a junior he went 7-0 with a .861 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 40.2 innings. As a senior he hit .406 with 11 doubles, three homers and 21 RBI. He went 6-4 on the mound with a 1.39 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.
 
Jorge Vazquez – He is a Sociology major and a right-handed pitcher who brings a blend of athletic talent and academic excellence to Lewis University. A product of Mount Carmel High School, Vazquez developed his pitching skills early on, becoming a standout on his high school team before embarking on his collegiate baseball journey, beginning his college career at Triton College, where he spent two years. During his time at Triton, Vazquez earned NJCAA Academic All-American honors. Vazquez transferred to Southern University for one year, continuing to refine his pitching repertoire and gaining valuable experience facing strong competition. Now at Lewis, he aims to leverage his diverse collegiate experiences. Vazquez is well-positioned to make a significant contribution to the Lewis baseball program.
 
Jacob Zahner – A talented right-handed pitcher who joins the Lewis Flyers baseball program after honing his skills over two years at Southeastern Community College and an additional year at Lincoln University. Throughout his collegiate career, Zahner has developed a strong pitching arsenal, combining velocity, control, and composure on the mound to become a reliable asset for his teams. A native of Burlington, Iowa, Jacob attended Burlington Community High School, where he first showcased his potential as a pitcher and a key contributor to the baseball program. His dedication to the sport and continuous improvement allowed him to successfully transition to the collegiate level.
 
Griffin Zweeres – A catcher from Morris High School, Zweeres was a three-time All-Conference performer. He helped lead Morris to a 30-4 record and a third-place finish in the state as a junior and a 27-9 record and regional championship as a senior. The High Honor Roll student batted .321 as a senior with 28 RBI and two homers. As a junior he batted .366 with three homers and 37 RBI. He belted six home runs and batted .300 as a sophomore.
