As I reflect on the past season and look toward the year ahead, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve this incredible community. From our student-athletes and coaches to our dedicated staff, alumni, corporate partners, and loyal supporters, it is our people who make Lewis Athletics such a special and inspiring place.
This past year, we achieved meaningful progress both on and off the field of competition. I had the privilege of meeting many alumni who expressed how impressed they are with the improvements and additions to our athletic department. These upgrades were made possible through the generosity of our donors, the hard work of our staff, and the unwavering support of the Flyer faithful. Because of these collective efforts, we celebrated a number of historic achievements:
· We finished 11th nationally in the NCAA Division II Learfield Director's Cup standings.
· We won our third consecutive GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference) Commissioner's Cup.
· Denise Hernandez captured a national championship in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
· More than 30 student-athletes earned CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District or Academic All-America honors.
· The Lewis Flyers won 11 GLVC championships during the 2024–25 season, with several student-athletes earning regional and national recognition, further highlighting our championship culture on and off the field.
· George Bilecki was drafted in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Padres, becoming the first Flyer drafted since 2000 and the highest drafted Flyer in the 21st century.
· We reached record levels in sponsorship and philanthropic support, generating vital resources that will strengthen our programs for years to come.
· We sold out Neil Carey Arena twice last season, a testament to the growing excitement surrounding our programs.
· Our student-athletes continued to excel academically, posting a department-wide GPA of 3.45, with all 22 teams recording a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Looking ahead, as the college athletics landscape continues to evolve, we are energized by the opportunities and challenges before us. We remain committed to strategic growth through the implementation of our Athletics Strategic Plan, positioning Lewis University Athletics for a future defined by academic excellence, competitive success, and deep community engagement.
I encourage all Flyers, alumni, fans, and supporters to continue this journey with us. Your investment in Lewis Athletics, whether cheering in the stands, making a gift to your favorite team, or becoming a corporate partner, is vital to elevating our programs and empowering our student-athletes to reach their full potential.
Thank you for believing in Lewis Athletics. Together, we will continue to soar to new heights.
