Men's Cross Country Ranked Across Multiple Preseason Polls

Romeoville, Ill. – After a highly successful 2024 campaign, the Lewis University men's cross country team was tabbed within the top 20 of multiple preseason national polls.
 
The Flyers were tabbed 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA DII Men's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll and were selected 18th within the HOKA FloTrack XC Preseason Rankings. Lewis is the only GLVC team to be ranked within the top 20 of either poll as well. The Colorado School of Mines landed in first within the FloTrack poll while Wingate topped the USTFCCCA poll.
 
Individually, junior Evan Horgan (Loves Park, Ill./Belvidere North) was tabbed fourth nationally within the FloTrack College XC Division II Individual Top 10. Horgan put together one of the strongest overall season performances in program history as he set the GLVC Championship record with a time of 23:23.64. He followed that performance with a first-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regionals, completing the course with a final time of 30:39.5. He capped off his postseason run with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Championships to secure All-American accolades.
 
Regionally, the Flyers were selected third in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Preseason Poll. Grand Valley State topped the Midwest Region Preseason Poll while Saginaw Valley State landed in second.
 
The Flyers being their season on Sept. 5 by hosting the Lewis Early Bird Invite. The red and white will compete in three more events throughout the fall, highlighted by holding the Lewis Crossover on Oct. 11, before welcoming the rest of the conference to Romeoville, Ill. for the GLVC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 25. The NCAA Midwest Regional is set for Nov. 8 and NCAA Championships are scheduled for Nov. 22 with both races taking place in Kenosha, Wis.
