Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's and women's swimming teams celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Pool against DePauw. The men defeated the Tigers, 163-97, while the women fell, 108.5-152.5.
The women picked up their first win of the afternoon in the 200 yard freestyle as
Do Dingshoff (Hoogeveen, Netherlands/Roelof Van Echten College)Â led all swimmers in the event with a top time of 1:59.03. The Flyer sprinters continued to roll as
Amelia Marsicek (Centennial. Col./Regis Jesuit) took home the crown in the 100 yard backstroke (59.80). The red and white snagged a pair of first place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke as
Maria Kretosz (Katowice, Poland/AWF Katowice) (1:09.68) and
Johanna Coates (Lusaka, Zambia/Lusaka International Community School) (1.11.12) finished in first and second, respectively.Â
In the 100 yard freestyle, the Flyers again took two out of three podium places as
Luna Schafer (Playa Del Carmen, Mexico/The Trents) placed second (54.58) and Coates finished in third (55.85). Marsicek (2:08.59) and
Natasha Sheehy (Sydney, Australia/MLC School) (2:22.47) placed first and third in the 200 yard backstroke while
Maria Kretosz (Katowice, Poland/AWF Katowice) led all swimmers in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:34.23). Dingshoff snagged her second first place finish of the afternoon in the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.25) while
Elaina Veome (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central High School) ended in third (5:34.68).Â
The Lewis men's team opened the meet with a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a team featuring
Colin Bade (La Grange Park, Ill./Lyons Township),
Pablo Solano (Carmel, Ind./Colegio De La Salle) De Vargas,
Davidson Vincent (Thomonde, Haiti/Westlake Preparatory School) and Otavio De Moraes Cunha (1:30.46).Â
Individually, the Flyers continued to roll as
Andres Bodington (Caracas, Venezuela/Mars Hill) turned in a top time in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:44.80) while Juan Castro and Cunha earned first (1:43.33) and third (1:45.73) place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle. Bade snagged his first individual top finish of the dual meet in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.73. De Vargas led all Lewis swimmers in the 100 yard backstroke (58.43) while
Eren Yarar (Adana, Turkey/TED Mersin College) paced Lewis in the 200 yard butterfly (1:57.93).
Heading to sprints, Vincent edged out DePauw's James Anderson (22.47) in the 50 yard freestyle with a final time of 21.76. Cunha continued the Flyers success in the sprints two races later with a top finish in the 100 yard freestyle (47.89). Yarar and
Rhys Vale (Avon, Conn./Avon High School) placed first (1:57.50) and second (1:59.00) respectively in the 200 yard backstroke. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Vargas placed first with a final time of 2:13,06, just sneaking by Kai-Wen Minnich of DePauw (2:13.50). Castro led all swimmers in the 500 yard freestyle (4:42.44) while Vincent earned his second top finish of the day individually in the 100 yard butterfly (51.03).Â
The Flyers swept the podium in the 400 yard IM as Yarar placed first (4:11.29),
Alex Boller (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) ended in second (4:16.25) and Bodington rounded out the top three in third (4:21.10). The red and white ended the meet with a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:26.78) with a squad consisting of Cunha, Castro, Bade and Vincent.Â
