Lewis Women's Basketball Beats Truman State 53-38 For Seventh Straight Win

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team won its seventh consecutive game Thursday (Jan. 15) with a 53-38 victory over Truman State at Neil Carey Arena. The win moves the Flyers to 9-6 overall, 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

IMPACT PLAYERS
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) led the Flyers with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and Sammi Campanelli (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) had 11 points each. Kree Nunnally (Crystal Lake, Ill./Example Academy) totaled eight rebounds, while Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) had seven steals.

Emajin McCallop had 10 points for the Bulldogs (8-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Not much scoring happened in the first seven-plus minutes of the game as the Bulldogs led 7-5 with 2:50 left in the quarter. A Ramage three-pointer and a free throw and basket from Bueno made it a 6-0 Lewis advantage to close out the quarter and give the Flyers an 11-7 lead.

A Gabi Hoover (Mishawaka, Ind./La Lumiere) layup made it eight straight points before Truman ended its over four minute scoring drought to stop the run and make it 13-9. A basket by Mercy Lasu (Winnipeg, Canada/D'Youville) and three-pointer by Bueno made it a 13-2 run and gave the Flyers an 18-9 advantage with 7:15 remaining in the half.

Truman scored the next five points, but five points from Campanelli have the Flyers their nine-point advantage back. The teams traded baskets to end the half as Lewis took a 25-16 lead into the break.

The advantage for Lewis was between seven and 11 points throughout the third quarter and it ended the quarter with a 41-31 lead.

Lewis' defense dominated the fourth quarter, not allowing a field goal for the first 5:32 of the quarter as it built a 47-32 lead. The Flyers were able to maintain their double digit advantage throughout the fourth quarter en route to the victory.
