HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied 15-15 midway through the first set, a untimely service error from the Hawks sparked a 4-1 spurt for Lewis that put them in the lead for good, 19-16. The two sides traded the next handful of scores with Quincy getting to within one, 24-23, after a service ace. Still, the Flyers weathered the storm and an ensuing Quincy service error sealed the 25-23 set one win.
It was all Lewis in the second set as they hit at a clip of .476 (13-3-21) compared to .059 (9-4-17) for Quincy to claim the second stanza, 25-16 and open up a 2-0 match lead.
Tied 9-9 in the third set, the Flyers were cleared for take-off as a kill from
Gauthier Brozak (Liege, Belgium/Institut de la providence de Herve) ignited an 8-2 run that vaulted Lewis into the lead, 17-11. Despite a late Quincy run that trimmed the Lewis lead to just three, 22-19, the Flyers prevented the upset as they rattled off three of the final five scores of the match to complete the sweep of their in-state rivals.
Lewis ended the match hitting at a clip of .440 (42-9-75) compared to .157 (25-14-70) for Quincy.
