Rosemont, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team fell to Wayne State, 8-3, on day two of the Dome Invitational Thursday evening.
Wayne State improved to 3-1 with the win while the Flyers dipped to 2-5.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Sisters Maddie Hool and Mia Hool paced the Warriors with three hits each while Elly Koopman tallied a team-best two RBI. In the circle, Sydney Long earned the win going all seven innings, allowing seven hits while notching three strike outs.
For the Flyers,
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) and
Jozlynn Pacheco (/Argo Community) notched two hits apiece with Pacheco also tying the game-high in RBI with two.
Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) was charged with the loss for the red and white, allowing six hits and earning three runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors roared out of the gate to begin the contest as they tallied two runs on the first three hits of the game. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Wayne State added to their advantage as Kate DeWitt singled to center field before a fielders choice allowed two more runs to come in for the Warriors and make it a 5-0 ballgame.
Lewis was able to scrape a run back in the bottom half of the frame as Frafjord doubled into center field to bring in
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School).
Wayne State added in three more runs in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of hits from Hool, Koopman and Hunter Near to make it a 8-1 contest.
Lewis ended the game on a high note as they tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh off of a RBI single from Pacheco. Also during the bottom of the frame,
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, Ind./Boone Grove High School) recorded her 100th career hit with a single to the outfield.
