Baseball Concludes Series Against Wayne State

Millington, Tenn. - The Lewis University baseball team concluded their series at the USA Baseball Complex Saturday (Feb. 22) by losing to Wayne State University 4-6.

The Flyers ended the four-game series winning one out of four and are currently sitting at a 2-6 overall record on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Wayne State jumped out ahead to start the game in the top of the first inning when Rhett Roeser came across to score and Drew Hill singled to center soon afterward for an RBI to put the Warriors up 2-0.

In the top of the third,Tony Hatzigeorgiou knocked in two more runs on a single for the Warriors which extended their lead over the Flyers 4-0.

Both teams added a run in the fourth inning when Bennett Hitzelberger hit a sacrifice fly in the top half to keep the Wayne State pressure, while Lewis finally got on the board in the bottom half when junior Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) came across to make it 5-1 on a wild pitch.

Lewis got their offense active in the bottom of the fifth inning gathering three runs on three hits and a Wayne State error. Junior Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI and later both Chaltin and junior Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) scored on a throwing error from third base to cut the deficit to one at 5-4.

The Warriors added an insurance run late in the top of the eighth when a Lewis wild pitch allowed Ty Garza to score from third to produce a 6-4 final score of the ballgame.

Pitcher Phillip Miller came in as relief for Wayne State and picked up the win working 3.1 innings while striking out five and allowing just two hits with no walks.
