Women's Lacrosse Thumps Northwood

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis Women's Lacrosse team beat Northwood University 17-7 at Lewis Stadium behind Jade McKinnon's (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) 5 goals. 

Lewis improved to 2-2 with the win and Northwood fell to 0-4 

IMPACT PLAYERS
Jade McKinnon (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) had a game leading five goals while Amelia Procyk (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) had a team leading three assists and five ground balls. In net, Sophia Fountain (Berkeley, Ill./Montini Catholic High School) got the win while making nine saves. 

Mairin Ziegler led Northwood's offense with three goals while Page Schultz and Gabby Wilson both had four ground balls. Claire Balintfy had 10 saves on 26 shots on goal throughout the game.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flyers came out hot scoring the first goal of the game in less than a minute to make it 1-0. Lewis continued the momentum by scoring three more goals before Northwood could put in their first goal with 6:27 remaining in the first, making it 4-1. The Flyers then tacked on 2 more goals while Northwood added on one more goal making it 6-2 after 15 minutes of play.   

Northwood came out in the second quarter scoring two unanswered goals in the first five minutes of play. Lewis responded by scoring the next four goals of the quarter and holding Northwood to no more goals making it a 10-4 advantage at halftime. 

Coming out of the break, Northwood scored first making it 10-5. Lewis then scores the next five goals making it 15-5 and starting the running clock after Eliana Cappellini (Burnaby, BC, Canada/Burnaby North Secondary School) found the back of the net at the 11:13 mark. The two sides traded scores throughout the third and fourth quarter to close out the contest. 

GAME NOTES

  • Lewis is now 1-0 against Northwood
  • McKinnon's five goals tied her previous season-high of five which she set against Saginaw Valley
  • Procyk's five ground balls are the most by a Lewis player in any game this year.

UP NEXT 
The Flyers travel to the Buckeye State to take on Walsh University on March 6th. Opening draw is at 2 p.m.
