HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 12-10 midway through set one, the Flyers were cleared for take-off as a short 4-0 spurt that gave them the lead for good, 14-12. After trading the next handful of points, the Flyers added insurance as a Hawai'i service error spurrned a 6-2 run that moved Lewis to within two of the set one victory, 23-18. Even with a late Rainbow Warriors rally, Lewis sealed the 25-21 set one with thanks to a
Deyan Todorov (Sofia, Bulgaria/51st Secondary) kill and service error from the hosts to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Down 22-18 late in the second set, the Flyers found life as they rattled off four consecutive points, highlighted by back-to-back service aces from Hoying to tie the set, 22-22. Still, the Rainbow Warriors got the last laugh as they stymied the Flyers for the remainder of the set and scored the final three points of the stanza to win, 25-22 and tie the match.
After tying the match, Hawai'i never looked back as they held Lewis to a sub-.150 hitting percentage in the third and fourth set while hitting above .350 in both sets to win the match, 3-1.
