Baseball Ends Weekend with Win Over William Jewell

Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team earned an 11-0 victory over William Jewell Sunday afternoon at the Brennan Baseball Field at Lewis University.

With the win, the Flyers improved to 8-16 (3-5 GLVC) while the Cardinals moved to 6-17 (2-6 GLVC)

GAME RECAP
Lewis jumped on the board early in the bottom of the first inning. After a pair of walks and a stolen base put runners in scoring position, Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) delivered an RBI single to bring home Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) for the game's first run.

The Flyers added to their lead in the fifth. Coines singled and advanced into scoring position before Chaltin came through again with an RBI double, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Lewis broke the game open in the sixth inning with a three-run frame. Daniel O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) delivered a two-RBI single to score Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) and Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.). Later in the inning, Jimmy
Spellman added an RBI single to push the lead to 5-0.

The Flyers put the contest out of reach in the seventh with a six-run streak. Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a run-scoring error and an RBI groundout by John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South). Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) ripped a bases-clearing double to drive in three runs and cap the scoring at 11-0.

Lewis' pitching staff was dominant throughout, holding William Jewell scoreless while allowing just a handful of hits and striking out multiple batters across the game.
