Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team split on day one in their series against Truman State, winning 5-3 in game two but falling 6-4 in game one.
The Flyers moved to 10-17 (4-6 GLVC) this season while the Bulldogs shifted to 8-19 (2-12 GLVC)
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
Truman came out in the first inning scoring the only run of the first from a Tyler Tieman groundout making the score 1-0. Truman scored again in the third inning from an Evan Davis single making it 2-0.
The fifth inning saw Truman again scoring three this time. Tyler Tieman singled to right field to drive in the first run. The other two runs were scored by an Evan Davis double to left field and a sacrifice fly from Shodai Nishihara making it 5-0.
The seventh inning saw the Flyers first run of the game scored by
Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) off of a single by
Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) to make it 5-1.
Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) would also score in the seventh inning off of a fielder's choice hit by
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) making it 5-2. The eighth inning saw Truman score off of a wild pitch making it 6-2. The ninth inning would see the Flyers scoring two unanswered runs. The first run would come from
Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) off of a
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) single and
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) scoring off a
Jayden Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) double. Unfortunately the Flyers comeback would fall short making the final score 6-4.
Jackson Kottmeyer (Aurora, Ill/Kaneland) recorded a loss while having pitched four innings and was charged four runs.
Jayden Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) had 3 hits while

Isaac Epp recorded a win while pitching 6.1 innings and two earned runs. Evan Davis and Shodai Nishihara had two hits while Nick Steurer and Oliver Degenhardt had 2 runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
Truman started out the game with the first run scored on a single in the first to make the score 1-0. Truman would score again in the second inning of a Jack Pearson solo homerun to make it 2-0. Lewis would score two runs of their own in the second inning with
Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) starting it off with a single to drive in Tyler Spellman to make it 2-1.
John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) would hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Daniel O'Brein to tie the game at two.
The fourth inning would see Truman score off of a single to give them the lead 3-2. John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) would score the only run of the fifth inning by hitting a homerun to right field to make it 3-3. The sixth inning would see the last two runs of the game scored by Lewis. Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) singled to right field which scored Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) to make it 4-3. Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) would score the final run of the game off of a wild pitch to make the final score 5-3.
Ben Catrambone (Western Springs, Ill.) recorded the win with two innings pitched and no earned runs. Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) and John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) both had two hits while Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC), John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep), Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), and Daniel O'Brein all had one run.
Caden Carroll recorded a loss and pitched 5.2 innings with five earned runs. Evan Davis, Gavin Schieffer, and Jack Pearson all had two hits while Gavin Schieffer, Jack Pearson, and Nick Steurer all had one run.
