Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team fell to No. 24 Missouri S&T 7-4 and 13-3 today in their doubleheader matchup at Brennan Field.
GAME ONE
The Flyers had a promising start, as they ended Missouri's top of the first inning with two looking and one swinging strikeout, all while not allowing any runs, hits, and no players left on base. After Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) reached first base, Constantine Coins, who was at second, reached home plate to open the scoring.
Missouri's Nick Krodinger, Will Muench, Keaton Scott and Drew Baugus scored runs, putting the visitors up 4-1. Lewis responded with a Jayden Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) walk, and a hit by Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) that went out the ballpark for a home run, adding two more runs for the Flyers and making it a 4-3 contest.
The Flyers would send it out of the field for the second time in the game, this time at the hands of Coins at the bottom of the fourth inning. This was the last run the Flyers recorded in the entire game, while the visitors added three more runs at the top of the fifth. Neither team scored any runs the rest of the game, letting Missouri S&T take game two of the series.
GAME TWO
The Miners kicked things off strong with two runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning. At the top of the first, Bricen Smith hit a home run while Drew Baugus reached home plate after he pinch ran for Nate Donovan, who had been at first base. Nick Hooper scored the visitor's run in the third inning.
The visitors took over the game at the top of the third inning, scoring eight runs, the highest scoring inning for either team today in the doubleheader. With Missouri's eight runs, the score was now 11-0 heading into Lewis' bottom of the third, making it the largest deficit the Flyers have faced this season.
The Flyers managed to get on the scoreboard at the bottom half of the frame with runs from Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) and Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep). The visitors recorded two more runs, one at the top of the fifth and one at the top of the seventh. Lewis' last run came at the bottom of the fifth, after Coins scored his first run of the game and third of the day. The game was called after seven innings.

The Lewis University baseball team will come back to Brennan Field tomorrow (April 18) to close the four-game series against nationally ranked Missouri S&T, with start time set for 12:00 p.m. CT.
