Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University athletic department celebrated another successful night of student-athlete accomplishments as they hosted its annual Charlie Awards. The night highlighted the academic and athletic efforts of the many Flyers student-athletes throughout the 2025-26 year.
 
The event began with the annual presentation of the bronze, silver and gold Delahanty Award winners. The Delahanty award is named after longtime university president and supporter of athletics, Brother David Delahanty. A personal advocate of physical fitness,  Brother David encouraged Lewis students to achieve excellence not only in the academic sphere, but also in the athletic arena.

Additionally, the Flyers honored Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) (Baseball) and Wiktoria Cioch-Gradzik (Slaska, Poland/X High School of Sports Championship) (Women's Swimming) with the Brother David Delahanty Senior Student-Athlete Award. The honor is bestowed to the top male and female senior student-athlete with the best GPA and performances in their respective sport.
 
Cioch-Gradzik has been a member of the Lewis women's swimming program since 2022. She will graduate this May with her degree in computer science and a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the pool, she is a two-time school record holder, with her record in the 1650 free still standing. She finished in the top eight at conference three times throughout her career and was top-16 on 11 occasions. In 2024, her efforts in the classroom and pool earned her College Sports Communications Academic All-District accolades. Away from swimming, she persented math research focusing on high-pressure moments in tennis at the Celebration of Scholarship earlier this year. Last summer, she had a computer science internship in Poland. She also is developing a 3D game and has created a workflow to generate experimental design
 
Bruno  has been a member of the Lewis baseball program since 2024. While at Lewis, Bruno has been named a Br. James R. Gaffney Distinguished Scholar, three-time Br. David Delahanty Award and GLVC All-Academic Team accolades while averaging a nearly perfect 4.0 GPA. On the field, Bruno was a 2024 All-GLVC Second Team selection and helped lead the Flyers to the 2025 GLVC Regular Season Title in 2025. His 2025 season saw him post a 3.24 ERA while averaging .92 walks and hits per inning. Bruno ended last season with seven saves, a total that ranked second in the GLVC. This year, Bruno has moved into a starting role where he set a new career-high in strikeouts with six against Upper Iowa and had a zero-walk game against regionally ranked Maryville as well. Bruno plans to continue to pursue his finance degree and expand on his professional opportunities after college.
 
The 2026 Charlies also featured the first awards to the best male and female team GPA's with both golf programs sweeping the titles. Both teams have excelled on and off the course with the two program combining for four tournament wins (Women - 3, Men - 1) with the women's squad also qualifying for the 2026 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional from May 4-6. 
 
The event then honored the 2025-26 Lewis Athletics senior class. This year's senior class featured over 30 All-Americans, over 30 GLVC Regular and Postseason Championship both individually and as a team along with a NCAA National Champion.
