Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team fell at home today against University of Indianapolis 6-10 and 3-10, in the last regular season doubleheader for both team.
GAME ONE
UIndy started off with a Brayton Bowen grand slam that gave the visitors an early comfortable lead. However, the Flyers bounced back at the bottom of the first with a run by
Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep), who was on second base but reached home plate after
Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) singled to right field.
The Flyers chipped away at the Greyhounds lead with one run scored at the bottom of the second at the hands of
Blake Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Plainfield South), which cut Indy's lead down to only two runs.
At the bottom of the third, the Flyers completed the comeback after scoring three runs that put them up 5-4 on the scoreboard.
Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) scored Lewis' first run of the inning while Daniel O' Brien and
Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) each scored a run after Blake had doubled to left field. The Flyers finished the inning with three four hits and one player left on base.
Although
Blake Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Plainfield South) had scored another run for the Flyers at the bottom of the fifth, U Indy scored three runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth inning to win, 10-6.
GAME TWO
The visitors struck first with four runs at the top of the third inning at the hands of Joey Humphrey, Carter Thomas, Chase Mason and Brett Perry. They managed to extend their lead to six runs after scoring two more runs the following inning.
The Flyers responded at the bottom of the sixth inning when
Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) doubled to left field while
Israel Delgado (Machesney Park, Ill.) advanced to third and
Blake Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Plainfield South) scored the Flyers' first run of the day. After
Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) got grounded out on a sacrifice play which gave Delgado the opportunity to reach home plate and add another run for the Flyers. Coines would score the Flyers' last run of the game after Clemens reached first on an error by the visitors infield.
UIndy scored four more runs at the top of the seventh inning to stymie the Flyers comeback and seal the win.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will stay at home tomorrow (May 2) to face off against University of Indianapolis in the last game of the series and last game of the regular season, with start time set for 12:00 p.m. CT at Brennan Field.
