Bolivar, Mo. – The Flyers turned in a strong first two days at the GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southwest Baptist University.
DAY ONE
On the women's side, the 10,000 meters produced three scoring finishes, led by
Josephine Bober's (Lockport, IL/Lockport Twp HS) runner-up time of 35:24.55.
Madilyn Calloway (Rochester, Ind./Rochester Community) followed in fourth at 36:12.02, while
Hudson Szymonik (Hampshire, Ill./Jacobs) placed fifth in 37:03.98. In the hammer throw, Aubree Brinkman secured a third-place finish with a mark of 48.81 meters, and
Olivia Cox () added a fourth-place mark of 45.26 meters.
The men's squad delivered a dominant performance in the 10,000 meters, claiming the top two spots.
Evan Horgan (Loves Park, Ill./Belvidere North) captured the conference title in 29:58.36, while
Gabriel Cates (Purcellville, Vir./Loudoun Valley) finished second in 30:24.70.
Jack Roberts (Frankfort, Ill./Lincolnway East) added a fourth-place finish in 30:32.49.
In the hammer throw,
Levi Graham (Plainfield, Ill./Minooka) earned the conference title with an NCAA provisional mark of 65.47 meters, and
Ben Saucedo (/) placed fourth at 55.21 meters.
DAY TWO
On the women's side,
Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) highlighted the day with a conference title in the long jump, recording an NCAA provisional mark of 6.30 meters.
Olivia Cox () returned to the podium in the shot put, placing third with a mark of 13.67 meters. In the pole vault,
Malaina Telschow () and
Sofia Olsson (/) both cleared 3.67 meters to finish third and fourth, respectively.
The 3,000 meter steeplechase proved to be a key event, as the Flyers placed four athletes in the top five.
Mary Edwards (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) won the conference title in 10:19.14, achieving an NCAA provisional mark and setting a new school record.
Megan Garrett () followed in second with a provisional time of 10:33.55, while
Katie Melzer (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) (third, 11:03.07) and
Morgan Gioia (Park Ridge, Ill./) (fifth, 11:34.87) rounded out the scoring.
On the men's side,
Brendon Shea (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) added to the Flyers' distance success with a second-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, recording an NCAA provisional time of 8:57.14.
The women currently sit in first place with 91 points, while the men's team holds third with 49 points heading into the final day of competition.
