Incoming Flyer Diego Espeso Set to Represent Spain at World Athletics U20 Championships

Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University incoming freshman Diego Espeso is set to represent Spain at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Espeso will represent La Roja in the 400-meter hurdles and enters the competition with a season-best qualifying time of 50.59.

The event is set to run from Aug. 5-9 with the semifinals set for Aug. 8 and the finals scheduled for the next day.

The World Athletics U20 Championships was launched as the IAAF World Junior Championships in Athletics in 1986. Since 1986, Spain has won 29 medals at the event and captured gold five times. This is the first time the event has been held in the United States since 2014 when it also was held in Eugene at Hayward Field.
