Romeoville, Ill.- Lewis University head baseball coach Julio Godinez announced the additions of Jack Murphy, Brandon Mahler, Christian Mitchelle, Davis Johnson, and Cameron Robinson to his inaugural coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.
 
"I am excited to have assembled a coaching staff like this at Lewis, with experience at every level of college baseball," Godinez said. "Our staff has achieved success across the collegiate landscape, including appearances in the NCAA Division I College World Series, NCAA Regionals, NJCAA JUCO World Series, and NCAA Division II and III Regionals. These coaches are player-centered and committed to teaching the details that make a difference. Their focus on developing fundamentals, accountability, and consistency helps create a winning culture and a successful program."
 
Murphy is no stranger to the baseball community, with 11 years of college coaching experience at the NAIA, NCAA, and NJCAA levels. Most recently, he was the head assistant at Concordia University Chicago. While coaching, he helped the Cougars win two postseason games for the first time since 2019.
 
Before Concordia, Murphy was the head assistant coach at Oakland City University (NAIA) from 2021-2024. At Oakland, he helped lead record-breaking wins: 2022 (31 wins), 2023 (34 wins), and 2024 (45 wins). He also coached and mentored three players who signed professional contracts and led the team to the NCCAA World Series in 2024, where the team was runner-up.
 
Murphy also has collegiate coaching experience at Lake Land College (NJCAA DI), Eastern Illinois University (NCAA DI), and Hillsdale College (NCAA DII). He additionally coached the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, MCL Minutemen, and Danville Dans.
Combined, Murphy coached 19 players who were either drafted in the MLB Draft or signed Professional Contracts: 12 players in the MLB and 7 players with professional contracts. Noteworthy MLB players include Trey Sweeney, Hayden Birdsong, and Will Klein.
 
A native of the Chicagoland area, Mahler previously attended Concordia University-Chicago. While at Concordia, he was an active member of the baseball team, competing as a catcher at the NCAA Division III level and serving as team captain for two seasons.
 
During his academic career, Mahler was a CSC Academic All-American. He was also named 2026 NACC Player of the Year, NACC First Team All-Conference, Region 8 Player of the Year, and NCAA Division III First Team All-American.
 
Mitchelle joins Godinez's staff after attending the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated in 2026. Before Cincinnati, he spent one year at Central Michigan University, where he made the MAC All-Tournament Team in 2023.
 
At Cincinnati, he was named CSC Academic All-District from 2024-2026. Moreover, he was awarded the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List-Big 12 Conference, which is an annual award given to a player who excels as a pitcher and a position player.
 
After graduating, Mitchelle coached for Rhino Baseball in Shorewood, Ill., where he taught youth athletes baseball fundamentals, led practices, and assisted with game program operations.
 
Before Lewis, Robinson attended John A. Logan College, where he earned an Associate of Arts in sports and Fitness administration in 2020. He later attended the University of Louisville, where he was a right-handed pitcher from 2020-2023. During his playing career, Robinson was named a JBB Preseason All-American in 2020. After earning his bachelor's degree, Robinson returned to Louisville as a graduate assistant for the baseball team, where he helped with batting practice, recruiting, and analytics.
 
After being promoted to bullpen coach for the Cardinals, he helped the team win the NCAA Vanderbilt Regional, the NCAA Louisville Super Regional, and appear in the College World Series during the 2025 season.

No stranger to Godinez, Johnson played for him at Lake Land College for two years. Afterward, he attended Eastern Illinois University to complete his bachelor's and master's degrees.
 
In 2024, Johnson opened J3 Training Academy, an indoor baseball/softball training facility. Johnson also served as an assistant coach at Lake Land College from 2024-2026, working alongside Godinez. He helped lead the team to their first World Series appearance in 30 years, where they finished in fourth place. While at Lake Land, they helped advance 16 players to the DI level, and 44 players across all levels.
