Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University men's tennis team extended their winning streak to six matches with the 6-2 victory over #41 Ferris State on Friday (Apr. 8) afternoon in a non-conference home match at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Flyers improve to 9-2 while the Bulldogs drop to 12-6.
"It was a great match and great team effort today," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We were prepared to play."
Lewis redshirt juniors Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) earned an 8-5 win over Kyle Revall and Steven Roberts at No. 1 doubles.
Lapimaa defeated Revall, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Irdoja earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Justin Hermes at No. 3 singles.
Flyer juniors Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule) (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) and Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) claimed the 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles over Jack Swan and Tyler Marengo.
At No. 3 doubles, Lewis' Jonathan Teune (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South/Taylor University) and Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) earned the 9-7 win over Hermes and Otto Keresztes. Hardacre defeated Oriol Vidal Cortes, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 singles.
"The guys did an excellent job in the doubles today and set the tone from the start," Bridel added. "It was an awesome performance by the team and a great win over a really good Ferris State team."
The Flyers are back in action on Sunday (Apr. 10), hosting Southern Indiana at 10 AM.
