INDIANAPOLIS – No. 17 Lewis women's volleyball held late leads in each of the first two sets at Indianapolis on Friday evening, but couldn't finish off the Greyhounds in either frame during Lewis' 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss.

Junior Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Mokena, Ill. /Providence Catholic) finished a kill short of a double-double with 12 digs and nine kills. She also added three solo blocks and three block assists. Senior Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) had nine kills and five blocks (two solo). Mitros and Mount were a big reason Lewis held a 12-6 edge in blocks.

The Flyers led 19-13 in game one thanks to a 9-0 run which saw the Greyhounds use both of their timeouts. Indianapolis would then score the next four points and finish the set on a 12-3 stretch. A Mount killed tied it a 22, only to see Indianapolis score the last three points.

The second set had a similar theme. Lewis grabbed a 16-11 lead after a four-point run. The Flyers led 19-17 when Indianapolis took control of the set with a seven-point push. Kristina Kerrigan had three kills for the Greyhounds in the stretch.

The Flyers nearly had a rally of their own in the third set. Lewis trailed 20-11, but cut the deficit to 23-21 to force a Greyhounds' timeout. Unfortunately the teams traded the next three points, giving Indianapolis a 25-22 victory.

“We looked better tonight than against Southern Indiana and Parkside,” head coach Lorelee Smith said. “The result is the same, but we're improving.”

Indianapolis improves to 4-4 (3-1 GLVC). Lewis falls to 5-4 (1-3 GLVC). The Flyers are at St. Joseph's on Saturday.
