Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's volleyball team will make its seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship when the No. 4 seed Flyers take on No. 5 seed Ferris State in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Midwest Regional, on Thursday (Nov 29). University of Indianapolis will host the regional at the Ruth Lily Center in Indianapolis, Ind., as start times have yet to be announced.
The Flyers earned an at-large bid into the 64-team tournament after a top-8 ranking in the Midwest Region. The Flyers fell to Rockhurst, 3-1, in the GLVC Championship on Sunday. Lewis has finished first or second in the GLVC since 2006, with four championships.
The squads faced off earlier in the season at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover on Oct. 12, with Lewis (26-10) outlasting Ferris State (23-7), 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10) in Aurora, Ill. Seniors
Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) and
Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) each posted double-doubles in the five set victory.
Other Indianapolis, Ind., Regional match ups include top-seed UIndy in a GLVC semi-final rematch against No. 8-seed and 2012 GLVC Champion Rockhurst. No. 2 seed Northwood will take on fellow GLIAC member No. 7 seed Ashland while No. 6 seed Hillsdale will face No. 3 seed Grand Valley State.
