ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis baseball split a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader with Drury on Sunday (March 25) at Brennan Field. The Flyers dropped the opener 14-4 (seven innings) and won the nightcap 6-2.

Senior Mike Bolling (Chicago, Ill./Guerin Prep) (Chicago, Ill./Guerin Prep/Triton) was the hitting star in game two. He finished a home run short of the cycle by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. He also stole two bases.

“Mike is our catalyst,” Lewis head coach Tim McDonough said. “When he is going good usually the team is going good also.”

Drury scored their only two runs of game two in the third to grab a 2-1 advantage. Lewis tied it up in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by junior Kyle Thomas (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic). It was his first home run of the year.

Bolling doubled to start the fifth. He was sacrificed over to third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Andrew Brauer (Bolingbrook, Ill./Montini) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Montini/College of DuPage). It gave Lewis a 3-2 lead. It looked like Lewis might have to eek out a one-run game for the second straight day until Lewis scored three runs in the sixth. The frame was highlighted by an RBI triple from Bolling. The three spot gave Lewis a comfortable 6-2 lead going into the final frame.

Lewis starter junior Matt Frahm (McLean, Ill./Olympia) (McLean, Ill./Olympia) picked up the win to move his record to 3-1. He allowed two runs (one earned), seven hits and no walks in a complete game seven inning performance.

“I thought Matt was a great example of what competing on the mound looks like,” McDonough said. “He did a great job in game two of shutting a really good offensive team down.”

Tyler Abma started for Drury. He is now 0-3 after taking the loss.

Frahm's performance came after a disappointing game one. Drury scored four in the first, one in the second, four in the third and four more in the fifth. Lewis scored a pair of runs in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Sophomore Tom Durkin (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) took the loss in game one to drop his record to 1-1. He allowed five runs (three earned) in two innings. Austin Faulconer threw a complete game seven innings to move his record to 3-0.

Drury is now 12-8 (5-3 GLVC). Lewis is 12-6 (5-3 GLVC). The Flyers host Upper Iowa in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch of game one is set for noon at Brennan Field.
