Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 37 Lewis University men's tennis team swept Indianapolis in doubles action on their way to the 8-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Sunday (Apr. 1) afternoon.
"We came out smoking in doubles today and I thought that really set the tone," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "We really played well the whole day and I thought we played smart, great tennis."
With the win, Lewis improves to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in GLVC play, while the visiting Greyhounds are now 10-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference action.
Lewis got the ball rolling at No. 1 doubles, as senior
Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and freshman
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) claimed the 8-2 win over Matt Smith and Alex Poe. Levandi also earned the 6-0, 6-0 whitewash over Nick Reinhart at No. 3 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis freshman
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and senior
Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) (Oak Lawn, Ill./RIchards/Moraine Valley C.C.) picked up the 8-3 triumph over Preston Swain and Pete Wilson. Aunapuu felled Caleb Fellers, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Wojnarowski dropped Poe, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
The Flyers completed their doubles sweep at No. 3, as Lewis'
Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and
Isriz Balase (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg/Harper) earned the 8-4 win over Trevor Cox and Fellers. Hardacre was also victorious at No. 4 singles, with the 6-0, 6-1, win over Smith, while Balase upended Swain, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 6), as they head to Evansville, Ind., to square off with No. 32 Southern Indiana. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
