ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis baseball scored five runs in the ninth inning for a comeback 15-14 non-conference victory over Saint Xavier on Thursday (April 12) afternoon at Brennan Field.
Lewis entered the ninth trailing 14-10.
Lewis had already scored one run in the ninth when sophomore
Kyle Kapka (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) singled in sophomore
Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) to make it 14-12. Senior
Michael Wido (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) stepped to the plate with runners on second and third. He wasted no time tying the game with a double to right center. Following a ground out which moved Wido up to third, it was senior
Mike Bolling (Chicago, Ill./Guerin Prep) (Chicago, Ill./Guerin Prep) at the plate. He slapped a pitch to the right of the third baseman and into short left field to score Wido for the walk off two-out RBI.
Bolling finished the game 2-for-6 with a solo home run in the second inning. His home run came in a six-run second inning. The big hit in the second was a triple by freshman
Mike Barajas (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) to clear the bases and knock in three runs.
Lewis had a big inning in the fifth also, scoring four runs. Junior
Zach Stetson (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher) (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher) had a two-RBI single that a third run came around to score on after a misplay by the right fielder. Stetson hustled all the way to third on the play and eventually scored on a Wido single.

Kegan Banks (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs) (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs/Blinn) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win for the Flyers. His record is now 2-1. Chris Klein pitched the ninth and took the loss for Saint Xavier. He is now 4-1.
Stetson, Barajas and Wido all finished with three runs batted in.
Saint Xavier falls to 27-18 while the Flyers improve to 21-10.
“I didn't think we played particularly well,” Lewis head coach
Tim McDonough said. “Luckily for us we got hits when he needed them and put big innings together.”
Lewis is will play at Kentucky Wesleyan this weekend. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Brennan Field however the threat of rain has moved the games to Kentucky Wesleyan's campus.
