Kenosha, Wisc. – The Lewis University men's swimming team opened the 2013 portion of their schedule with a 155-107 dual meet victory over Carthage College on Saturday (Jan. 12).
“We had some very good performances despite the fact that we are in the middle of our most challenging training cycle,” Lewis head men's swimming coach
Roger Karns said. “I was pleased with our breaststrokers as they held their races together nicely.
“We are doing exactly the things we need to do as we move closer to the championship season in February and March.”
Four Flyers won two individual events apiece in the dual meet. Junior
Derick Carlson (Norridge, Ill./St. Patrick) won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:49.63) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.96) while senior
Brandon Drogemuller (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.33)
Bryan Wiener (Mundelein, Ill.) won the 100-yard backstroke (52.69) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.72) as
Zach Ballon (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.98) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.51).
Edwin Welsh (Madison, Miss./Galena) won the 200-yard butterfly, tapping in at 2:03.66.
Zach Renk (Cranberry Township, Penn./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) hit the wall at 1:49.30 to win the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Flyers also won both the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:15.96) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.43).
Lewis will honor seniors
Kyle Kummer (Addison, Ill./Willowbrook) and Drogemuller on Saturday (Jan 19) at the Flyers last home meet of the season against Olivet Nazarene at Lewis Pool with an 11 AM start.
