      The men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Lewis Open at the Recreation Center Fieldhouse on Friday (Jan. 11) night. Both teams return to action on Friday (Jan. 18) as they host the Lewis Invitational at the Recreation Center Fieldhouse at 4 PM.
     Senior Kamille Ferguson (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) recorded a NCAA provisional time of 7.24 in the 55-meter dash to lead the Flyers. In the 55-meter preliminaries, Ferguson posted a career-best mark of 7.23 to advance to the finals. Six more Flyers captured second-place finishes in their respective events including Amber Wentzloff (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) in the 200-meter dash (27.23), Samantha Stewart (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) in the 55-meter hurdles (8.80), Amy Polhemus (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) in the 400-meter dash (1:03.24) and Samantha McGaha (Greenwood, Ind./Perry Meridian) in the long jump (5.17) meters. Adding to that, freshman Amber Cook (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) claimed a second-place mark in the triple jump (10.90) and Roslyn Summerville (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) finished second in the shot put (11.29).
     On the men's side, sophomores Matt Jemilo (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) and Andrew McLain (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) each won their respective events to lift the Flyers at the Lewis Open. Jemilo won the 1,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:34.62, while McLain added a first-place finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:31.29.

       The men's and women's swim teams participated in a dual meet at Carthage College on Saturday (Jan. 12). The women's team came up short, falling to Carthage 161-101, while the men's team beat Carthage, 155-107.
     Junior Sarah Kenis (Herndon, Va./Oakcrest) won three different events for the women as she finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.07), 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.14) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.42). Sophomore Katie Hallenbeck (Plano, Ill./Plano) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.28, while Kinsey Coble (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) won the 50-yard freestyle (25.06).
     Four Flyers won two individual events apiece in the dual meet on the men's side. Junior Derick Carlson (Norridge, Ill./St. Patrick) won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:49.63) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.96), while senior Brandon Drogemuller (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.30) and the 500 yard-freestyle (4.44.33). Freshman Bryan Wiener (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.69 and the 50-yard freestyle (21.72), while freshman Zach Renk (Cranberry Township, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.98) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.51).
      Both teams are back hosting Olivet Nazarene at Lewis Pool at 11 AM on Saturday (Jan. 19). The event will honor seniors from both the women and men's team. 
  




Women's Basketball

      The women's basketball team stayed hot as they picked up two more wins defeating both William Jewel, 65-56, on Thursday (Jan. 10) night and Rockhurst, 76-67, on Saturday (Jan. 12). The Flyers improve to 10-2 on the season and 3-1 in the GLVC.
     Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) shined against William Jewell as she notched 11 of her 15 points in the first half, hitting 5-for-6 from the field.
     Against Rockhurst, junior guard Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) scored a career-high 19 points on a career-high, five three-pointers to lead the Flyers to the victory and their fourth-straight at home. Senior Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) posted 10 of her 15 points in the second half, hitting three buckets and making four-of-six free throws, late in the contest.
     The Flyers hit the road to open up GLVC East Division play on Thursday (Jan. 17) at McKendree with a tip-off set for 5:30 PM. Lewis closes the weekend out on Saturday at Bellarmine with a 1 PM ET start time. 



Men's Basketball

      The men's basketball team split a pair of GLVC decisions as they fell to William Jewell, 73-69,  on Thursday (Jan. 10) and defeated Rockhurst, 87-52, on Saturday (Jan. 12). Lewis moves to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
     Against William Jewell, sophomore guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) topped the Flyers with his first career double-double, collecting a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) scored all of his 15 points in the second half, while senior David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) posted 11 points.
       Ten different players recorded at least one basket on Saturday and seven players scored at least seven points for a season-best 34 buckets and 87 points for the Flyers against Rockhurst.  Sophomore forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) led the charge for the Flyers with a double double of 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting and a career-high 14 rebounds.
      Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 17), as the Flyers head to Lebanon, Ill. to square off with McKendree with a 7:30 PM tip-off. The Flyers close out the weekend on Saturday (Jan. 19) against No. 12 Bellarmine with a 3 PM ET start time. 




Men's Volleyball

     The men's volleyball team split a pair of decisions against No. 2 Brigham Young in Provo, Utah to move the Flyers to 1-4 overall on the season. On Friday (Jan. 11), Lewis picked up a 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-9) victory. BYU was able to avenge the loss on Saturday (Jan. 12) sweeping the Flyers (25-22, 25-16, 25-14).
     Lewis snapped a 0-12 record against BYU with their come-from-behind victory on Friday. Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) stayed hot, following his MIVA Player of the Week accolades, as he hit .767 with a caeer-high 24 kills on 30 attempts for the Flyers.  Junior setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) tallied 47 assists and five blocks in the match.
     Lewis turns their focus to Penn State as they travel to play the Nittany Lions in a non-conference match up on Friday (Jan. 18). First serve is set for 7 PM ET. Lewis closes out the weekend, facing Saint Francis on Saturday (Jan. 19) with a start time of 7 PM ET
