Lewis Men’s Swimming Falls To Olivet Nazarene, 137-125

Freshman Bryan Wiener earned three first-place finishes.

Romeoville, Ill. – Lewis University freshman Bryan Wiener (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) paced the men's swimming team on Saturday (Jan. 19) with three first-place victories in the squad's 137-125 loss against Olivet Nazarene at Lewis Pool on Senior Day.
 
“It was an exciting meet today,” Lewis head men's swimming coach Roger Karns. “Today's effort was what were looking for as we head into the championships in a few weeks.”
 
Wiener won the 50-yard freestyle (21.72), 100-yard backstroke (50.55), which broke the Lewis Pool record of 50.90 he set against Valparaiso on Nov. 10, 2012, and the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.43).
 
Senior Brandon Drogemuller (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:33.80) and the 500-yard freestyle (4.42.33), while junior Derick Carlson (Norridge, Ill./St. Patrick) (Norridge, Ill./St. Patrick) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.01).
 
Wiener, Drogemuller and Carlson teamed up with sophomore Brett Busch (East Moline, Ill./United Township) (East Moline, Ill./United Township) to come from behind to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:11.74 to close out the meet.
 
Seniors Kyle Kummer (Addison, Ill./Willobrook) (Addison, Ill./Willowbrook) and Drogemuller were honored prior to the meet.
 
Lewis is back in action next Saturday (Jan. 26) when the squad heads to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on the University of Indianapolis at 1 PM ET.
