Lebanon, Ill. – The Lewis University women's soccer team's offense was stifled by a physical McKendree University on Sunday (Oct. 6) as the Flyers fell, 2-0, in the Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

The Flyers move to 6-3-1 on the year and 4-3-1 in GLVC play. The Bearcats improve to 5-3-3 on the campaign and 3-2-3 in league action.

McKendree got on the board first at 17:05 when Alyssa Reiniger's shot got past Lewis freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport). Reiniger put in the Bearcats' second goal in the 63rd minute off of a corner kick by Amy Cassiday.

Meyer collected one save while McKendree's goalkeeper Taylor Zerbe corralled four saves for the clean sheet.

"Today was an extremely physical game," Lewis head women's soccer coach Chris Koenig said. "We expected that but we weren't able to dictate much of our style of play, forcing us to chase them."

"We pressed, battled and came with more energy today," Koenig continued. "We gave up two goals that we couldn't afford to do to a team like McKendree on the road."

Lewis took 16 shots, with five on goal, while holding McKendree to only eight shots and three on frame. The Flyers also earned more corners than the Bearcats, 6-3.

The Flyers return to Lewis Stadium to host Southern Indiana on Friday (Oct. 11) with a 5 PM kickoff.
