2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament Central
Lebanon, Ill. – The Lewis University women's volleyball team captured their seventh straight win to close out the regular season with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 15-11) victory over McKendree on Saturday (Nov. 16).
With the win, the Flyers capture the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division Title and become the No. 1 overall seed to host the 2013 GLVC Championship tournament.
The Flyers improve to 23-8 on the season and 16-2 in GLVC action while McKendree falls to 13-18 on the year and 8-10 in league play.

Lorelee Smith said. "Our players progressively improved as the match went on and showed how much fight they have in them.
"I am really proud of the team and elated that they reached one of their goals, hosting the conference tournament."
Sophomore outside hitter
Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) led the Flyers with 21 kills and 11 digs while redshirt sophomore right side hitter
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) collected 20 kills and four total blocks. Redshirt junior outside hitter
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) tallied 16 kills, 10 digs and three total blocks while junior setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) dished out a season-high 59 assists and had 17 digs.
The squads headed to a deciding a fifth set after McKendree won the fourth game. The Flyers jumped out to a 8-3 lead as Davito picked up five kills for Lewis. Vertin and Parsons also tallied a kill each as the Flyers collected a McKendree error in the run.
The Bearcats made a late run, collecting points on four Lewis attack errors. The Flyers lead withstood the pressure as Davito closed out the match with a kill.
McKendree's offense was led by Maureen Nesbit's 17 kills and 23 digs while teammate Hannah Wessel tallied 12 kills. Breanna Howe collected 29 assists as Maddie Kelly had 23 digs.
The top-seeded Flyers will host the eighth-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday (Nov. 22) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is set for 7:30 PM.
