Rolla, Mo. – Lewis University sophomore outside hitter
Lauren O'Brien (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) led the women's volleyball team with 19 kills and 15 digs in the Flyers' 3-1 (25-16, 26-28, 25-15, 25-22) victory over Missouri S&T on Saturday (Nov. 9) at the Bullman Mutli-Purpose Building.
Lewis improves to 19-8 on the year and 12-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action while Missouri S&T falls to 13-14 for the season and 8-6 in league play.
"The team played amazing tonight," Lewis head women's volleyball coach
Lorelee Smith said. "They have really focused hard on improving in our weaker areas.
"It is starting to show and it gives us a huge lift in energy."

Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) collected 17 kills and a career-high 20 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Redshirt sophomore
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) also picked up 17 kills and four total blocks while junior setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) dished out a season-high 56 assists and had 13 digs.
Flyer sophomore middle hitter
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) collected two solo blocks, five block assists and seven kills for the Flyers. Redshirt libero
Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) had a floor-high 27 digs.
Missouri S&T was paced by Hayley Wright's 13 kills and 11 digs, while libero Caitlin Brocker dug 24 balls. Miner setter Allie Plunk had 36 assists.
The Flyers came out of the first set swinging .275 with 17 kills and three errors in 51 attempts, as Davito picked up seven of her kills in the set. Lewis held Missouri S&T to a .091 hitting percentage (11 K, 6 E, 55 TA) while out-blocking the Miners 7-2.
Despite out-hitting the Miners .204 (18 K, 7 E, 54 TA) to .196 (16 K, 5 E, 56 TA), the Flyers had four costly attack errors late that allowed Missouri S&T back to win the second set.
Lewis cleaned up their game in the third set to swing .359 (17 K, 3 E, 39 TA) while Missouri S&T finished at .000 (7 K, 7 E, 38 TA). Davito and O'Brien both had five kills in the set for the Flyer offense.
The Flyers kept the momentum going in the fourth set, taking a six-point lead at 12-6. The Miners were able to claw back into the set late, but only got within two points, at 23-21, before Lewis shut the door on a kill from Davito. Davito would pair with Barea for a block assist.
The Flyers travel to Springfield, Mo., to take on Drury on Sunday (Nov. 10) at 1 PM.
