Lewis Baseball Takes Out West Virginia Wesleyan, 19-1

The Flyers posted 11 of their 18 hits for extra bases.

Senior Brian Norwood went 2-for-4 with a double, scored three runs and collected two RBI for the Flyers.

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Lewis University baseball team's offense was clicking on all cylinders as the Flyers defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 19-1 on Monday (March 4) at Chain of Lakes Park.
 
The Flyers improve to 3-0 in the season while the Bobcats fall to 1-6.
 
“It was good to see that we were able to pick up where we left off offensively yesterday,” Lewis head baseball coach Tim McDonough said. “We had a big inning in the third with our hitters locked in at the plate.”
 
The Flyers took a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning. After junior Alex Slaby (Davenport, Iowa/Davenport West) led off the third inning with a single, then junior Jake Murray (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) followed with a two-run home run to score the first two of the Flyers' nine runs of the inning. Slaby finished the day with two hits and scored three runs, while Murray collected three hits including a double with his home run.
 
The Flyers also scored four runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth, as 11 of Lewis' 18 hits were for extra bases.
 
Senior Michael Schroeder (Crown Point, Ind./North Newton) went 4-for-5, with three doubles, and collected four RBI in the win. Fellow senior Brian Norwood (Medinah, Ill./Lake Park) tallied two hits with one double, scoring three runs and collecting two RBI for the Flyers.
 
Senior pitcher Matt Frahm (McLean, Ill./Olympia) picked up the win with a six-inning performance, allowing one unearned run in the fifth inning on three hits. He walked two, hit one batter and struck out eight.
 
Junior Kendall Paluch (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) came out of the bullpen to pitch the seventh inning, allowing one walk.
 
The Flyers will next take on Ohio Dominican on Tuesday (March 5) at 2 PM ET at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.
