Winter Haven, Fla. – The Lewis University baseball team collected four hits as the Flyers fell to Ohio Dominican, 5-1, on Thursday (March 7) at Chain of Lakes Field.

The Flyers are now 4-1 on the season while the Panthers move to 3-9.

“We didn't play very well today in all aspects of the game,” Lewis head baseball coach Tim McDonough said. “I have to give credit Ohio Dominican for playing a good game. We just never matched their intensity and their pitchers did a good job keeping our hitters off balance all day."

Ohio Dominican got on the board first, scratching across a run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings on five hits and a Flyer error.

Lewis answered with their only run of the game in the top of the fifth. After junior Drew Buddle (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin)  singled to start the inning, he stole second and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Buddle then rounded third and scored on a throwing error by the Panthers' shortstop.

The Panthers added a single run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Junior Kendall Paluch (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) (0-1) took the loss, giving up five hits and two runs (one earned), walking and striking out one in four innings of action.

Ohio Dominican's Nick Venditti (2-1) picked up the win in a six-inning outing. He gave up four hits and one run, walked four and struck out four Flyer batters.

The Flyers return to action on Friday (March 8) for a doubleheader against Gannon in Auburndale, Fla. First pitch is set for 9 AM ET.
