Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team extended their winning-streak to 10 games with a 14-6, 9-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference sweep of UW-Parkside at Brennan Field on Tuesday (April 2).
The Flyers improve to 16-3 on the year and 10-1 in conference play while the Rangers fall to 0-12 on the season and 0-10 in league action.
“I thought we did a nice job with the bats today,” Lewis head baseball coach
Tim McDonough said. “In both games, we executed offensively and got big hits when we needed them.”
Home runs from juniors
Jake Murray (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Moraine Valley C.C.) and
Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) highlighted the Flyers' 12-hit game one victory. Senior
Michael Schroeder (Crown Point, Ind./North Newton) (Crown Point, Ind./Triton) and junior
Drew Buddle (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) each picked up three hits in the contest.
Freshman
Nick Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) earned his first career win as a Flyer with a five-inning performance. Davito (1-0) gave up four runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one.
UW-Parkside's Andy Stochl (1-1) was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs, four earned, on six hits in four innings. He walked seven and struck out four.
In game two, Albano hit his second home run of the day in the first inning to double his season total to four. Sophomore
Anthony Baldassano (Woodridge, Ill./Nazareth) (Woodridge, Ill./Nazareth) and Buddle each picked up two RBI as the Flyers scored nine runs on nine hits.
Sophomore
Mike Barajas (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) went 2-for3 at the playte with a double while redshirt junior
Kyle Thomas (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) also picked up two hits.
Junior
Kendall Paluch (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic/Pasco Hernando C.C.) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits in six innings of work. Paluch (1-1) struck out five and walked one.
The Rangers' Casey Doucette (0-1) took the loss, giving up six hits, five earned, on six hits. He struck out two and walked one in four innings.
The GLVC East Division leading Flyers hit the road to Louisville, Ky., for a four game series against Bellarmine on Saturday, April 6. First pitch at Knights Field is set for 12 PM.
