Romeoville, Ill. - The 12th-ranked Lewis University men's soccer team had four different Flyers score on their way to the 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Maryville at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Sept. 27) night.
The Flyers received tallies from junior
Michael Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), sophomore
Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) and freshmen
Alexandro Ayala (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood) and
Allan Benitez (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville). Benitez added an assist for good measure.
With the win, Lewis (5-0-2, 4-0-1 GLVC) remains undefeated, while Maryville falls to 0-6 on the campaign and 0-5 in conference play.
For the game, Lewis outshot Maryville, 14-5, and recorded five shots on frame to the Saints' three. Of Lewis' five shots on goal, four found the back of the net.
Ayala's score came at the 2:16 mark and Lewis University head men's soccer coach
Evan Fiffles thought that was a big key for the Flyers.
"Getting that early goal was big because they had to chase the game from that point on,"  Fiffles said. "I thought they lost a little confidence after that, but Maryville is much better than their record shows.
"We had a lot of good performances tonight," Fiffles continued. "It was a good team effort and I thought we all came out and did a good job."
Lewis goalkeepers
Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) and
Omar Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Elsik) combined for three saves for the combined shutout. Maryville keepers Kyle Leveling and Josh Richter combined for one save.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept .29), as the Flyers host UMSL for a 2:30 PM kickoff.
