Cambridge, Mass. – The No. 11 Lewis University men's volleyball team hit a season-high .495, collecting 62 kills with 12 errors in 101 attempts as the Flyers defeated No. 13 Harvard 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14) on Friday (Jan. 24) at the Malkin Athletic Center.
The Flyers improve to 5-2 on the year while the Crimson fall to 0-1 on the campaign.
All three Lewis hitters collected double-figure kills against Harvard, led by redshirt junior outside hitter
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) with 15 kills, 10 digs, five service aces and three block assists. Junior opposite hitter
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) tallied 18 putaways, seven digs and a solo block while junior outside hitter
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) collected 11 kills, five digs, three block assists, and three assists for the Flyers.

BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had a floor-high 45 assists, five kills and four block assists as junior libero
Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) collected a career-high 11 digs and three assists. Sophomore middle blocker
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) picked up eight kills, two assists, one solo block and five block assists as fellow middle blocker
Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) picked up four kills and two block assists.
The Flyers out-blocked the Crimson, 10-5, and collected a season-high seven service aces. Lewis held Harvard to a .238 hitting percentage for the match, tallying 40 kills and 16 errors in 101 total attempts.
Despite hitting over .538 with 15 kills and one error in 26 attempts, the Flyers committed five service errors, which allowed the Crimson the space to keep Lewis at bay in the first set.
Once the Flyers cleaned up their serving, they were able to take the next three sets in convincing fashion.
"In the first set we missed serves right at the start," Lewis head men's volleyball coach
Dan Friend. "We didn't give ourselves an opportunity to score."
"In the next three games, we were able to put the service pressure on them," Friend continued. "BJ did a really nice job distributing the ball as our pin hitters did fantastic tonight."
DJ White led the Crimson offense with 11 kills and seven digs as Casey White also chipped in 11 kills and four digs. Harvard setter Nick Brendell dished out 36 assists.
The Flyers return to action on Saturday (Jan. 25) to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers at the Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn. First serve is set for 7 PM ET.
