Memphis, Tenn. – Lewis University sophomore
Alex Thode (Washington, Iowa/Washington) and junior
Ryan Frederick (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) finished tied for fourth with a two-round score of 147 to help the men's golf team to a fifth-place finish with a total of 607 (305-302) at the Christian Brothers Spring Invitational on Tuesday (March 11).
Centenary won the 11-team event with a total score of 584 (289-295) at the par-70, 6,675-yard Quail Ridge Golf Club, while the Gents' Jamie Gibson took home the individual title with a total of 145 (70-75).
Thode combined a score of 72 on the first day with a score of 75 on Tuesday, while Frederick shot a first-round 76 and dropped five strokes for a second day 71.
Sophomore
Robert Dofflemyer III (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) turned in a score of 158 (81-77) while senior
Dan Petrarca (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) shot 160 (81-79).
Junior
Jeremy Fraser (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) rounded out the Flyers with a two-day total of 161 (76-85).
"Alex and Ryan played well over the two days," Lewis head men's golf coach
Skip Steffey said. "Our downfall was poor iron play, as we didn't hit the ball very well."
The Flyers are back in action on March 22-23 at the Cardinal Spring Invitational, hosted by Saginaw Valley State at the Boone Links Golf Club in Florence, Ky.
